Recurrences is a live performance developed in collaboration with the musical ensembles of Fondazione Luigi Piseri, music of school, in the province of Monza, based on David Lang's Sweet Air. A section of the musical score was translated into numerical sequences and processed through Pitagora, generating a succession of recurring visual modules. The modules repeat according to a fixed structure, while each recurrence produces a different configuration. The resulting images are not a visual accompaniment to the music. They are generated directly from the score and become a visual score themselves. Throughout the performance, the musicians follow this visual system, which simultaneously structures and constrains their expressive possibilities. The musical piece, lasting more than nine minutes, therefore becomes a field in which repetition and variation, freedom and constraint, coexist.
